Heart to heart

From Fr. Zacharias (Remember Thy First Love): "In Paradise, God so revealed himself to man that the mere sight of his Creator inspired him to imitate God's virtues and His way of being. But because Adam fell, God, wanting to restore him, made the heart of man His target: 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.' And because God wants us to make Him our target, we must stand at the door of His mercy and knock from WITHIN our heart. And in order to do this, we must dwell in God's presence so as to develope a spiritual and divine sensation in our heart. Thus, when there is knocking on both sides, the door to man's heart will finally open and God's Feast with man will begin. He who dwells in God's presence will each day experience new spiritual ascents in his heart through God's right hand, that is, by the Holy Spirit."

This short quote gives you the dynamic involved in "gaining" more and more of the Holy Spirit, which is a product of God and you both saying yes - He supplies the grace and you keep walking with Him. Finding your deep heart and "abiding" there as much as you can is not something that is optional if you want real intimacy with God to eventually begin. The "spiritual and divine sensation in our heart" Fr. Zacharias talks about is real, it is often described as a spiritual warmth in the area of the heart that touches emotion but is more - the manifestation of the Presence of the Holy Spirit! ( love, peace joy, and more).
