THINGS I HAVE LEARNED.....The Wisdom Of St. Ephrem Of Syria

For years I have read two or three of St. Ephrem's "Psalms" each day to practice staying small. His little book is, "A Spiritual Psalter", and is only a few dollars on Kindle. Now, during Lent, his famous prayer is constantly popping up because the Eastern Churches use it, with prostrations all through Great Lent.

"O LORD AND MASTER OF MY LIFE, GIVE ME NOT A SPIRIT OF SLOTH, IDLE CURIOSITY , LOVE OF POWER, AND USELESS CHATTER. RATHER, ACCORD ME , YOUR SERVANT, A SPIRIT OF CHASTITY, HUMILITY, PATIENCE, AND LOVE. YES, LORD AND KING, GRANT THAT I MAY SEE MY OWN FAULTS AND NOT CONDEMN MY BROTHER, FOR BLESSED ARE YOU FOREVER AND EVER."

St. Ephrem lays out the ultimate spiritual agenda for all of us, to be our aim every day of the year. This prayer, and his Psalter to soften the heart for daily repentance in the face of our failure, are an unbeatable combination!
